The Assembly plays a vital role in addressing issues of social integration of refugees into host communities , the speaker of Garssa county Assembly Hon Abdi Idle Gure has said .

Opening a two days workshop on social integration of refugees into hosting communities ,the speaker said Members of County Assembly being the oversight entity in all aspects of development intervention plays an important role aimed at enhancing the provisions of service delivery to both refugees and host communities…
He noted that with the enactment of the refugee act in Kenya MCAs were better placed to strengthen advocacy matters and public participation . .

Hon Gure lauded the refugee consortium of in Kenya for being the first organisation to engage with the Garissa county assembly on partnership in fostering cohesion and integration..

He observed that the refugee act needed to be domisticated at the local level and the refugee consortium of Kenya had come out in strengthening the legislative agenda through capacity building of the Assembly staff and members of the Country Assembly .

The workshop was jointly organised by Kenya National commission of human rights and REfugee consortium of Kenya…

The Executive Director of RCK Mr Barker colly Jaji called for honesty and integrity by all organisations involved in humanitarian and other commitments in ensuring prudent delivery of services.

The head of UNHCR Garissa Office Madam Magalla Abdi who also attended the workshop said the refugee act had given equal rights to both the refugees and the host communities and that there was need to align the work or development interventions with both the national and county government development interventions programmes . .

Others who attended the workshop included Chairpersons of the house committees ,Clerk of the county Assembly Mr Mohamud Abdirashid Santur , the coordinator KNCHR Ibrahim Abdi Kassim and senior staff members ….
